COVINGTON, KY — Gateway Community and Technical College will recognize the exemplary academic, leadership and technical performance of 188 students, including 106 scholarship recipients, Tuesday at its annual Night of Excellence. The convocation will take place at 7 p.m. at Notre Dame Academy in Park Hills, Ky.

Rani Clark and David Strange, both of Ft. Thomas, received top honors as recipients of the J.D. Patton Award for academic and technical excellence. The Phi Theta Kappa academic honorary earned the award for best student organization of the year.

Recipients are selected by faculty and staff committees and academic divisions based on student performance. Individual students receiving awards, include:

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, KY (FOX19)- Northern Kentucky University graduated 1,636 students on Saturday setting a record for the school.

Three ceremonies are being held throughout the day at the Bank of Kentucky Center.

The ceremonies kicked off at 9:00 a.m. with the College of Arts and Sciences and College of Informatics. Dr. Freeman Hrabowski, President of the University of Maryland at Baltimore County, was the speaker.

The second ceremony featured the College of Education and Human Services, College of Business and College of Health Professions. CEO of Landor Associates, Mary Zalla, was the speaker.

The final ceremony will feature the Chase College of Law. Attorney and Businessman, Bruce Lunsford, will be the speaker.

The 2013 spring graduates of NKU include 1,217 undergraduates, 242 graduate, 10 doctoral and 167 law students.

FORT THOMAS, KY (FOX19) - Highlands Middle School identified QUEST science students won first place in Kentucky at the 2012-13 eCYBERMISSION competition. The competition ran from October 2012 through February 2013 with notice of final results given on May 1.

Highlands Middle School 7th grade team, the “Bluejays,” won first place in Kentucky in the competition and were one of the top four teams in the Southeast region. The students each won $1,000 savings bonds and are featured on the eCYBERMISSION website at www.ecybermission.com. Members of the team are Samantha Lohner, Alex Stieby, Bonny Lemma and Natalie Reed.

The “Bluejays” completed a project on food psychology using different colored cupcakes. The students found that the color of food greatly affects the choices we make in our eating.  In their research they found that red was an appetite stimulant while blue was an appetite suppressant.
