Kenton County Fiscal Court Endorses Gateway's Urban Campus

Covington, Ky.  - The Kenton County Fiscal Court has endorsed construction of an Urban Campus for Gateway Community & Technical College in downtown Covington, Kentucky.

In a resolution passed June 21 by the fiscal court, Kenton County encouraged state, federal, and local governments and private entities to fund this important and vital education project for Covington, Kenton County, and Northern Kentucky as a whole.

The Kenton County Fiscal Court is the third governmental body to endorse Gateway’s Urban Campus.

Locally owned businesses to hold event in Bellevue

Local businesses that are independently owned are being recognized at a Shop Bellevue event.

The event is part of Bellevue Renaissance's monthly first Friday event. The first one begins on Friday, July 1 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. along the 200 to 700 block of historic Fairfield Avenue.

The event offers dining, gallery openings, shopping, open house receptions, and special promotions provided by the independently owned businesses.

The main reason for the event is to help add to the local economy. Business owners say that spending $100 at a local business means that $68 of that will go back into the economy. They say that the same $100 spent at a nation chain returns $43 to the economy.

People can also qualify to win the gift basket located in the window of Cleves and Lonnemann Jewelers.

Grant aims to move Kentuckians move from unemployment to jobs

COVINGTON, KY (FOX19) - Governor Steve Beshear today announced $918,562 in first-time federal funding for systems that will provide re-employment and eligibility assessment (REA) services to unemployment insurance (UI) recipients in Kentucky. The grant will be administered through the Office of Employment and Training (OET), an agency of Kentucky’s Education and Workforce Development Cabinet.

“These funds will help unemployed workers find jobs through personalized assistance with work search plans and other services through our one-stop career centers,” said Gov. Beshear.

As part of the REA project, one-stop career centers will require in-person interviews of certain UI recipients to assess their continuing eligibility for benefits and need for re-employment services.
