Rand Paul to speak in Campbell County Thursday

NEWPORT, KY (FOX19) - Kentucky Senator Rand Paul will be the guest speaker at the Campbell County Tea Party meeting on Thursday.

The meeting is at 7 p.m. at the new County Government Building at 1098 Monmouth Street in Newport.

Paul was also recently announced as a keynote speaker at an April event by the Iowa Federation of College Republicans.

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, KY (FOX 19) - First responders in one tri-state community are getting critical training to help deal with a possible hazardous material incident from a train accident.

The Rural Domestic Preparedness Consortium (RDPC)  tells Fox 19 that they are providing critical training to help rural first responders, government administrators, and emergency managers in Highland Heights, KY respond more effectively to a freight rail car incident.

In 2008, the Federal Railway Administration (FRA) reported, there were more than 7,000 rail car accidents and incidents—20 of which involved hazardous materials—requiring the evacuation of over 5,000 people.

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX 19) - Four local couples have a chance to win VIP Seats to the upcoming Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet concert at US Bank Arena, along with a special rock and roll dinner jam session.

Alto Reed, long-time saxophonist with Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band, will host a five star private dinner for four couples in Cincinnati on April 4th, the night before the Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band concert. After dinner, the couples will join Reed and some special guests for drinks and photos. Then, on the night of the concert on April 5th, the couples will be taken by limousine and sit in the band's private seats at the US Bank Arena—seats that are never available to the public.

Proceeds will benefit Pink Ribbon Girls (PRG) in Cincinnati and Think Pink Rocks.

FRANKFORT, KY (FOX19) - Kentucky Gov. Steve Beshear has signed into law a ban on new synthetic drugs commonly marketed as bath salts or plant food.

The manufactured drugs MDPV and mephadrone can create delusions, paranoia and sometimes violent behavior and often mimic the effects of Ecstasy and methamphetamine.

"This bill gives law enforcement another tool to protect Kentuckians from substances that are engineered specifically to mimic illegal dangerous drugs and allows Kentucky to keep pace with an ever-changing drug market," Gov. Beshear said.

Under HB 121, sponsored by Rep. John Tilley, of Hopkinsville, manufacturing or trafficking in the substance is a Class A misdemeanor.
