ALEXANDRIA, KY (FOX19) — November 1, 2010, with the chill of fall expected to arrive this week it’s time to think about our home heating systems. The heating system in a home is the prime cause of fires in residences and is the second most common cause of deaths because of fires, according to nationwide research.
William Ray Turner, Director of the Campbell County Office of Emergency Management explains that common sense steps can do much to avoid the risks of fire in the home.
Here are some precautions that Turner offers:
* Check the central heating system early every season, even before turning on the heat, if possible.
* Change or clean air filters regularly, every month of the prime heating system if you can.
* Wood or coal?burning stoves should be at least a yard away from walls or furniture.
