Jefferson Hall closing at Newport on the Levee

NEWPORT, KY (FOX19)- Jefferson Hall is closing at Newport on the Levee.

According to a post on the bar's Facebook page, April 28 will be its last day.

"Jefferson Hall opened in 1995, after many years of great bands, great customers and friends, Jefferson Hall will be taking a break. Sunday, April 28 will be the last day for Jefferson Hall. We have 11 days left please stop down and have one last drink with us," the post reads.

Jefferson Hall moved from Over the Rhine to the Levee in 2006.

The owner of Jefferson Hall, Tony Cafeo, is slated to open a new restaurant at the Banks this year called Jefferson Social. Cafeo also owns the Incline Public House in Price Hill.

Newport on the Levee officials say they plan to replace Jefferson Hall with a Kentucky Bourbon concept.

First ever district-wide Kindergarten Readiness Fair

COLD SPRING, KY (FOX19) - Any parent who wants to know if their child is ready for for Kindergarten is invited to a Campbell County Readiness Fair.

Campbell County educators and community members will be at Crossroads Elementary School on Saturday, April 20 for the first ever district-wide fair from 9am - 11:30pm.

Come learn what it takes to be ready for kindergarten as you visit various "readiness" stations hosted by district kindergarten teachers and counselors. The event is free to all parents and guardians.

Summer burn ban begins May 1 in Northern Kentucky

INDEPENDENCE, KY (FOX19) - The Kentucky Environmental Protection Cabinet will once again issue a ban on open burning in the Northern Kentucky counties of Boone, Campbell and Kenton.

This ban will be in effect May 1 through September 30 and then beginning on October 1st 2013 the Kentucky Department of Forestry has a ban established as the fire hazard season. This ban makes it illegal to set a fire within one-hundred and fifty feet (150’) of any woodland, except between the hours of 6pm and 6am local time or when the ground is covered with snow.

The ban set forth by the Kentucky Environmental Protection Cabinet has the following exceptions, unless open burning violates Commonwealth of Kentucky laws or local ordinances:

(1)   Fires set for cooking food for human consumption.

(2)   Fires set for fire hazard prevention.

NKU President delivers annual budget address

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, KY (FOX19)- The Northern Kentucky
University (NKU) President delivered his annual address of the school's budget
on Wednesday.

President Geoffrey Mearns
addressed faculty and students on campus, revealing how federal sequestration
budget cuts will have a minor impact on the university's budget.

President Mearns also conveyed
that Federal Pell Grants for students are protected through 2014 and will not
face cuts.

NKU will see reductions in some
types of financial aid.

Mearns says the Federal
Work-Study Program, which helps needy students finance the cost of college by
providing money for part-time employment, will be affected, as well as
federal support for sponsored research.

Application process open for UpTech II

Application process open for UpTech II

NEWPORT, KY (FOX19) -  UpTech, Northern Kentucky’s super business accelerator, announced on Wednesday that the application process for UpTech II is now open.

Available through the UpTech website (www.uptechideas.org), applications must be submitted online by May 24.  UpTech is seeking informatics companies comprised of driven entrepreneurs who feel they would benefit from acceleration in growth and development.

Companies with big ideas still in the ideation phase of development or companies with paying customers will be accepted.

Companies selected for UpTech II will be announced in July 2013.

Man, 68, expected in court on child sex abuse charges

A 68-year-old man is expected in court Wednesday on child sex abuse charges.

Thomas Bennett, of Cold Spring, is facing six counts of related charges involving a child under the age of 12.

Bennett is scheduled to appear in a Campbell County courtroom at 8:30 a.m.
