Make preparations now for "Dividing the Estate" play | Arts & Culture
FORT THOMAS, KY (FOX19) - Students from Highlands High School’s Drama Department will perform Dividing the Estate, a story of the Gordon clan, a Texas family hit hard by the steep drop in oil prices in 1987.
The 85-year-old family matriarch, Stella, rules the family, but the family smells their inheritance coming. The younger daughter, Mary Jo, who is deeply in debt, comes to visit her mother with her husband and their two daughters, prompting a family get-together. Mary Jo wants to divide the estate before her mother dies.
Stella is determined not to divide her 100-year-old Texas estate, despite her family's declining wealth and the looming financial crisis. Various members of the family, including the servants, take sides in the debate and wonder how much inheritance, if any, remains.
The family bickers as only a Southern family can, mentioning every slight and insult that has occurred over the past 80 years. Old resentments and sibling rivalries surface as the members of this hilariously dysfunctional family go head to head to see who might claim the biggest piece of the pie in Dividing the Estate.
