CINCINNATI (FOX19) - A Tri-state band played Tuesday for what may be its biggest audience so far: opening for classic hard rocker (and guns and hunting advocate) Ted Nugent at the Artpark in Lewiston, New York.

The rock/goth/progressive/alternative band Chakras has played often at the Southgate House and other clubs in Newport, Covington, and Corryville. They have also played in almost all large cities within 300 miles of Cincinnati.  They appeared on the FOX19 morning show in June 2010.

The Artpark is what its name implies: a park devoted to the arts which overlooks the Niagara River Gorge.  It includes a large outdoor amphitheater which hold free concerts with famous artists in the summer.  Bassist Marybeth Camp told her Facebook followers "We played for ~15000 people.

(FOX19) - Northern Kentucky One Book One Community -- the reading program that encourages everyone to read the same book -- announces this year’s selection -- All the Way Home: Building a Family in a Falling-Down House by David Giffels.

All the Way Home follows the side-splitting and sometimes maddening travails of Giffels and his wife as they attempt to restore a crumbling mansion. Their many adventures include nudging the elderly ex-owner to vacate the premises and battling the wisteria vines, raccoons, squirrels, and mice that have overtaken the attic. This is the story of a young family growing into itself. Through the ups and downs of their project they are forced to deal with frustration, loss, perseverance and doubt. David Giffels currently teaches Creative Non-Fiction as an Assistant Professor at the University of Akron.

Kentucky Symphony Gala to pit the 70's and 80's

NEWPORT, KY (FOX19) - You may not be making your Valentine's week plans yet, but the Kentucky Symphony Orchestra is making theirs.

The KSO has announced that the theme of their annual gala will be "70's vs. 80's".  We don't if that means they're going to bring in Florence Henderson to arm-wrestle Mr. T., or if MASH's Charles Emerson Winchester III will be arguing classical music selections with Frazier from Cheers, but we do know the date's been set for February 11th 2012.

The gala will be held at the Northern Kentucky Convention Center in Covington.
