The exhibit opens Saturday at noon with the Northern Kentucky Brotherhood performing at noon.  At 2:00 p.m. Diamond Head Bluegrass will also perform.  The music is free.  Some fascinating stories to go along with quilts and other family heirlooms are also being shared.  The exhibit is fascinating enough on its own, but the community contributions increase the interest.

BELLEVUE, KY (FOX19) - The 2011 Bellevue Neighborhood Association's "Holiday on the Hill" home tour, this year focuses on six architecturally unique homes found in the Bonnie Leslie neighborhood of Bellevue.

This year's tour features two English Tudors, two American influenced Cape Cods and two Dutch Colonials, all refreshed and decorated for the holiday season.  "Each year the Bellevue Neighborhood Association (BNA) chooses a different neighborhood to sponsor the tour, said Linda Fields BNA president.  "This year's tour highlights Bellevue's youngest neighborhood with homes built from the mid to late quarter of the twentieth century". Though similar in age and square footage, this year's featured homes says something different to the visitor. Built some 60 plus years ago, each home has been updated with features such as new kitchens and baths while retaining the charm of original hardwood pegged flooring or decorative Rookwood tiled fireplace surrounds.

NKU Mayerson Student Philanthropy Project announces fall recipients

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, KY (FOX19) – Northern Kentucky University students awarded $5,525 in grants to six area nonprofits Thursday as part of the university’s Mayerson Student Philanthropy Project. The awards were made at a campus ceremony.

The student philanthropy project, now it in its 11th year, is designed to teach the principles of community stewardship by allowing students real-world opportunities to review grant requests and make awards. A typical class is responsible for awarding a minimum of $2,000.

“These classes teach philanthropy by letting the students ‘do’ philanthropy,” said Mark Neikirk, director of the NKU Scripps Howard Center for Civic Engagement, which houses the philanthropy project. “Along the way, our students learn that giving money isn’t a snap. Wise investment requires research and analysis to determine how a dollar invested will have the most impact. And the students take their obligation to invest for impact very seriously.”
