New life for the Southgate House in Newport | Business
NEWPORT, KY (FOX19) - The owner of the former Historic Southgate House announced plans on Wednesday to relocate and rename the popular nightclub business.
Ross Raleigh announced that the Southgate House will move to another historic property, the former Grace Method Episcopal Church, located at 111 E. Sixth Street in Newport just off the main drag, Monmouth Street, in the city’s downtown business district.
The business will be renamed The Southgate House Revival and will feature three stages under one roof.
“We’re very excited to finally be announcing the reopening,” said Morrella Raleigh.” “The support the community has shown has been overwhelming and we know this new spot is only going to enhance their music going experiences. We can’t wait to get back to business.”
The property at E. Sixth Street, which had been on Newport’s most endangered historic properties list, is currently under renovation. The Grace Method Episcopal Church was built in 1848 with a large sanctuary added in 1866.
The large sanctuary will be utilized to showcase national touring acts and larger local and regional events. The facility also houses a downstairs lounge with a small stage and a second floor with a stage to showcase mid-range shows.
Shows are currently being booked and further announcements will be made in the upcoming weeks via www.facebook.com/southgatehouse.com and twitter.
The Southgate House Revival will open the weekend of October 5-6.
