General Cable Corporation to host investor day in NYC

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, KY (FOX19) - General Cable Corporation will host an Investor Day on Tuesday, March 26 at The Grand Hyatt in New York City.

Gregory B. Kenny, Chief Executive Officer, Brian J. Robinson, Chief Financial Officer and other members of senior management will host the meeting from 1pm - 4:30pm.

Mazak awarded $224,050 in KY WINS funding for Gateway Training

FLORENCE, KY (FOX19) – Gateway Community and Technical College said today that Mazak Corporation has been awarded $224,050 in funds from KY WINS to provide skill upgrades for newly hired employees at its Florence manufacturing facility. Gateway will conduct the training, which is aimed at developing the new employees as CNC technicians, at its Boone Campus.  

“Gateway helps us sharpen our competitive edge by working with us to provide customized skill upgrades to our workforce,” said Mike Vogt, vice president of human resources and general affairs at MazakUSA. “We rely on Gateway to help us keep our current workforce up to date and as a source of well-trained new employees.”

Gateway Offers Manufacturing Skill Standards Training

 

Florence, Ky. (February 21, 2012) –Gateway Community and Technical College will offer the Manufacturing Skill Standards Council (MSSC) certified production technician (CPT) training April 8 through May 30 at its Boone Campus.

Presented by the college’s Workforce Solutions Division, this training teaches skills highly valued by local manufacturers. The MSSC program is intended to certify people who master the core competencies of front-line manufacturing. The training consists of individual certificate modules in safety, quality practices and measurement, manufacturing processes and production, and maintenance awareness.

Full CPT certification and three hours of college credit are available to those successfully complete the training and associated testing. CPT certification can open job opportunities in manufacturing.

The Gateway course will be offered Mondays through Thursdays from 9 to 11 a.m.

Groundbreaking for Highland Pointe Retail Center

Groundbreaking for Highland Pointe Retail Center

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, KY (FOX19) - Thompson Thrift Development recently closed on a five-property assemblage consisting of 1.58 acres of land for its Highland Pointe retail center in Highland Heights.

A groundbreaking for the project is being held on Tuesday, February 12 at 2pm.

The project will consist of two buildings consisting of more than 13,225 square feet of retail space. City Barbecue, Firehouse Subs, Pizza Hut and Ft. Thomas Jewelers will anchor the development.

Approximately 5,300 square feet of retail space remain for lease in the center, and the company is working with various national and regional tenants to fill out the balance of the project. Kristine Davidson of Cincinnati-based OnSite Retail Group will assist Thompson Thrift with the leasing of the development.

Construction is to be completed by June 15. The retail center is located at 2700 Alexandria Pike just off State Route 27, adjacent to Northern Kentucky University.

Gateway Appoints Schutzman Dean of Workforce Solutions

FLORENCE, KY (FOX19) – Carissa Schutzman of Villa Hills, Ky., was recently named dean of Workforce Solutions at Gateway Community and Technical College, according to Angie Taylor, Gateway vice president of Workforce Solutions and innovations.

In this role, Schutzman is responsible for collaborating with Gateway’s business, industry, and secondary education partners to develop programs and services designed to spur workforce development and preparation. A major part of her role involves creating initiatives to increase the pool of qualified candidates for manufacturing jobs.

Gateway Schedules Kentucky Plumbing Code Course in January

FLORENCE KY (Dec. 21, 2012)—The Workforce Solutions Division of Gateway Community and Technical College will teach a Kentucky Plumbing Code Course from Jan. 15 to Feb. 21, 2013, at its Boone Campus in Florence.  

The course will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 to 9 p.m. at Classroom and Training Building  at 510 Technology Way on the Boone Campus. The cost of the course is $150 per person, and books will be provided. The registration deadline is Jan. 8, 2013.

Bank of Kentucky Invests $1 Million in Gateway Urban Campus

COVINGTON, KY – The Bank of Kentucky, Inc., has committed $1 million to the Gateway Community and Technical College Foundation for use in developing Gateway’s Urban Campus in downtown Covington. The gift is the first investment of $1 million or more ever received by the college or the foundation.  It is the latest in series of major announcements related to the campus in recent weeks.

“The Bank of Kentucky is pleased to make this investment to assist the college in its goal to make higher education more accessible to the residents of the urban core,” said Robert W. Zapp, president of The Bank of Kentucky. “We believe strongly in the concept of the Urban Campus and the positive influence it will have on the revitalization and future growth of the city and the region, as well as the opportunities it will provide for students.”
