Fabulous Thunderbirds to fly into Fort Thomas

FORT THOMAS, KY (FOX19) - Fort Thomas Renaissance has announced the National act for the Merchants & Music festival coming up September 24.

It's the Fabulous Thunderbirds.  They are best known for their bluesy "Tuff Enuff", but if that doesn't close the deal for you, they can "Wrap it Up" in some "Powerful Stuff".

Also on the bill are Cincinnati favorites, the Rusty Griswolds, G. Miles & the Hitmen and Tupelo Honey.

This is an annual festival that is about spreading awareness of the local business community with a backdrop of great music.

It will run from 4:00 to 11:00 PM rain or shine. It will again be held in the Midway district of Ft. Thomas at River Road & S. Ft. Thomas Avenue.  Lots of food and drink will be available. The event hotline is 859-572-1278.

CVG Sponsoring 2012 World Choir Games

CINCINNATI ,OH(FOX 19) - The Cincinnati Organizing Committee for the 2012 World Choir Games announced The Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport as a bronze-medal sponsor for the event. CVG will be the official airport for the Games, which will take place in Cincinnati USA from July 4-14, 2012.   "As the region's front door, we are honored to partner with the Organizing Committee - and the community as a whole - to welcome competitors, their families and friends to CVG. We look forward to helping make this event a resounding success for the Cincinnati USA region," said John C. Mok, airport CEO.  Cincinnati USA was selected as the first U.S. city to host the World Choir Games. The event is considered the Olympics of choral music.

Northern Kentucky University alumnus Chris Ryan recognized as a "rising star"

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. (FOX19) - As he prepares for the largest event of his young career, Northern Kentucky University alumnus Chris Ryan has been recognized as a "rising star" by Partnership Activation, a leading sports industry trade publication.

"I am truly excited to be recognized as a rising star by Partnership Activation," Ryan said. "It's a great honor both personally and professionally to be included with such a great group of my peers within the sports community from across the country. I'd like to thank NKU professors Joe Cobbs and Tom Gamble for the nomination and I look forward to an exciting summer here at Kentucky Speedway."

Ryan, who received his B.S. in sports business in 2006, has spent six years with the Kentucky Speedway sales team and is currently an account executive with the organization. He began his career at Kentucky Speedway as an intern while attending NKU.

New class announced for Leadership Northern Kentucky

COVINGTON, KY (FOX19) - The Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce has announced its 33rd Leadership Northern Kentucky Class.  The LNK Class of 2012 has 50 participants who will experience a valuable and powerful program, develop leadership skills and knowledge of regional issues.

"Out of many qualified applicants, we have assembled a diverse group of individuals from throughout the region who, through their professional and community activities, have demonstrated a commitment to improve the quality of life for our region.  The LNK program will prepare class members for more active involvement in community affairs through effective leadership," said Candace Klein, Graydon Head and chair of the Leadership Northern Kentucky Steering Committee.

Grant aims to move Kentuckians move from unemployment to jobs

COVINGTON, KY (FOX19) - Governor Steve Beshear today announced $918,562 in first-time federal funding for systems that will provide re-employment and eligibility assessment (REA) services to unemployment insurance (UI) recipients in Kentucky. The grant will be administered through the Office of Employment and Training (OET), an agency of Kentucky’s Education and Workforce Development Cabinet.

“These funds will help unemployed workers find jobs through personalized assistance with work search plans and other services through our one-stop career centers,” said Gov. Beshear.

As part of the REA project, one-stop career centers will require in-person interviews of certain UI recipients to assess their continuing eligibility for benefits and need for re-employment services.
