FORT THOMAS, KY (FOX19) - Fort Thomas Independent Schools will participate in the local Rolling Thunder event on Thursday, May 24, 2012. The ride will begin at the Campbell County YMCA and end at the Peace Bell in Newport. During the Rolling Thunder event from 8:15-9am, riders will pass each Fort Thomas school. As the procession passes by, representatives from the school will raise a POW/MIA flag that has been provided by Rolling Thunder. This flag will be flown at each school through the Memorial Day weekend.
Participation of the Fort Thomas Independent Schools in this local Rolling Thunder event has been coordinated by Highlands High School junior Eric Hempleman, a VA Hospital volunteer, who stated, “I think it’s very important to never forget the ones who fought for us.”
Rolling Thunder is a group that promotes trying to rescue or recover the remains of U.S. Prisoners of War/Missing in Action troops, among other veterans’ cause. It consists largely of veterans who ride motorcycles, though the group welcomes members male and female, veteran or civilian, and motorcycle rider or not.
