Health & Wellness Fair open to the public at The Barrington of Ft. Thomas

FORT THOMAS, KY (FOX19) - The Barrington Independent and Assisted Living and Highlandspring Transitional Care Center of Ft. Thomas will host a community and professional health and wellness fair on Saturday April 27.

Medical professionals and community residents can participate in seminars that include a variety of topics including in-home care, medical supplies, life lines, diabetes care, heart health, pharmacy information, community services, stroke prevention, blood pressure and more.  Programs begin at 9:30 a.m. and end at 12:30 p.m. at the 960 Highland Avenue campus.

            “Our hope is to bring awareness to the community about the aging process and what services and resources are available to the general public,” says Vice President Kim Majick.  “We will have programs for the general public and the opportunity to earn continuing education credits for medical professionals.”

NEWPORT, KY (FOX19) - The entire summer line up was announced on Friday for the Newport on the Levee concert series.

Concerts are held on the Plaza by the Aquarium at Newport on the Levee every Thursday night, May 23 through September 5 (excluding July 4) 7:00pm - 10:00pm.

The Mane Event; annual fundraiser hosted by Milestones

INDEPENDENCE, KY (FOX19) - Milestones will hold their annual fundraiser, The Mane Event, Dinner-By-the-Bite on Saturday, May 18th, from 6:00 to 9:30 pm. 

The Mane Event is held at the farm (12372 Riggs Road, Independence, KY) and offers guests the opportunity to enjoy student two riding demonstrations, dinner by-the-bite, a silent auction, raffles, and music (graciously donated by Top of the World Productions).

Milestones was organized and incorporated as a therapeutic horseback riding program for individuals with disabilities in 1999.  Services were originally provided on a farm in Campbell County. In 2006, Milestones relocated to a 44 acre farm in Kenton County, Kentucky and will provide 2,100 hours of therapeutic riding in 2013.

Gateway April 30 Expo Highlights Career, Education Opportunities to Students, Parents

Florence, KY (April 11, 2013) – Gateway Community and Technical College will host an evening for high school students and their parents to tour the college’s high-performance labs and learn about manufacturing careers, college credit available in high school, and apprenticeships.  The Advanced Manufacturing Expo is April 30 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Center for Advanced Manufacturing on the Boone Campus, 500 Technology Way, Florence.

The event is free and open to the public. No reservations are needed. In addition to college officials, Gateway’s industry partners will be on hand to discuss career opportunities and educational requirements with parents and students.

“The expo is designed to give parents and students a chance to learn more about the exciting and high-paying careers that are available in the high-performance production environment,” said Carissa Schutzman, Gateway’s dean of Workforce Solutions.

Circus Mojo International College Circus Festival Is May 3 to 5

(FOX19)  - College circus groups from across the globe and across the United States are coming to Ludlow, Kentucky May 3 to 5 for Circus Mojo’s first ever International College Circus Festival. The three-day event will include performances for families, workshops for college aged students, and concluding with interviews for fun local jobs with Circus Mojo and volunteer opportunities with partner circuses abroad.

The International College Circus Festival will be held at Circus Mojo headquarters: 326 Elm St; Ludlow, Kentucky 41016.

Registration still open for NKU 'Spring into Service'

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, KY (FOX19) - The Northern Kentucky University Scripps Howard Center for Civic Engagement will host "Spring into Service" to marshal a corps of students, faculty and citizens for a morning of hands-on volunteering this Saturday, April 13.

            The center is collaborating with WNKU, the City of Highland Heights, Pantry of Hope of First Baptist Church, Highland Heights Community Gardens and Giving Fields (an organization who harvests fresh produce to benefit local food pantries and on-site feeding organizations).

            Sign-in and free breakfast will begin at 8:30 a.m. on NKU's campus. Students, faculty, alumni and staff along with members of the community will gather before dispersing to provide service to local nonprofit organizations and businesses. At noon, volunteers are invited to return to NKU for a free celebratory lunch.
