YMCA & Junior League Present Free Kids in the Kitchen Family Event

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - The YMCA of Greater Cincinnati and the Junior League of Cincinnati are partnering to offer Kids in the Kitchen, a FREE event for families focused on healthy fun. This event is being held on Saturday, April 16 10am-2pm at the University of Cincinnati Campus Recreation Center.

At Kids in the Kitchen, parents and kids will learn from celebrity chefs how to make healthy, tasty and affordable snacks and meals. There will also be face painting, games, and more. Thanks to Whole Foods Market, the first 750 families will receive a goodie bag.

Take salsa, reggeaton, merengue, tango, flamenco, calypso, hip-hop, samba, and belly dancing, put it in a workout routine, add laughter, energy, and sweat and you've got ZUMBA!

NEWPORT, KY (FOX19) - Seventh Street Gifts in Newport is celebrating springtime with live music, food, and drink on Sunday, April 10 from 1pm-5pm.

Artists will be doing personal aura portraits for $20 dollars each.

Seventh Street Gifts is located between Saratoga and Monmouth Streets in Newport. There is a free municipal parking lot in the 700 block of Monmouth directly around the corner.

Public invited inside Newport cancer laboratory

NEWPORT, KY (FOX19) - Wood Hudson Cancer Research Laboratory will be celebrating 30 years of ground-breaking cancer research by inviting members of the community to a free Open House on Sunday May 22nd.

The occasion also marks the completion of the Biospecimen Repository Center.  This addition to the historic 1922 Newport facilities will house a national caliber collection of 1.6 million tissue samples from area hospitals St. Elizabeth Healthcare and The Christ Hospital.

Guests will be offered free refreshments from Newport restaurant Detroit Joe’s while enjoying entertainment from local musicians.  They will also be escorted on a tour of the laboratory where 169 cancer research discoveries have been made to date.  Visitors will also have a unique opportunity to explore the brand new Biospecimen Repository Center.

Highland Heights to host annual Easter Egg Hunt

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, KY (FOX19) -The City of Highland Heights Recreation Committee announced today that it will host the city’s annual Easter Egg Hunt at the Highland Heights City Building (176 Johns Hill Road) on Sunday, April 17, from 1:30-2:30 p.m.

The event, which is geared toward children up to 12 years old, will include a massive Easter egg hunt of 3,000 prize-filled plastic eggs, interactive musical entertainment by the Cincinnati Circus Company, photos with the Easter Bunny and refreshments.

“We’re thrilled to add musical entertainment from the Cincinnati Circus Company to this year’s Easter Egg Hunt,” said Highland Heights Recreation Committee Chair Gayle Hilleke. “This has always been a popular event, and we’re working hard to make sure this year’s hunt will be the most memorable yet.”

The egg hunt will be broken into three age groups – one for children 1-3 years old, one for children 4-7 years old and another for children age 8-12.

SHARONVILLE, OH (FOX19) - Ken, long-time beau of Mattel's Barbie, is now 50 years old.

Though the age hardly shows in Ken's manly and handsome plastic features, Mattel has seen fit to give the toy icon a makeover or two over the years.  Millions appreciate his always up-to-date fashion sense.

The Queen City Barbie Doll Club celebrated with their 17th annual doll show and sale.

Local groups and businesses almost ready for Opening Day parade

CINCINNATI (FOX19) - The Findlay Market Opening Day Parade kicks off at 11:00 a.m. Thursday. 

The parade runs from Over-The-Rhine's Findlay Market straight down Race Street into Downtown, turns left at 5th Street, and disbands at Sycamore Street.

Among the parade entries from Northern Kentucky are the Boone County High School Band, John Morrell and Sara Lee/Kahn's, Glier's Goetta, The Newport Aquarium and Rides the Ducks, The Point/ARC of NKY, and the Pendleton County Naval Junior ROTC Naval Junior Officers Reserve Training Corps.

Findlay Market will be closed until 1:30 p.m.

Huggins headlines annual sports awards

SHARONVILLE (FOX19) - Bob Huggins has been gone from UC for years now, but he's hardly been gone from Cincinnati.

The latest case in point: Huggins will be the guest speaker at the 5th annual Cincinnati Sports Professionals Network (CSPN) Awards Banquet May 9 at the Sharonville Convention Center.

The event pays tribute to athletes, sports professionals, businesses and events for their accomplishments in 2010.

Tickets, which include dinner and the program, cost $75 per person or $700 for a table of 10. Student tickets are also available for $35. FOR VIP, which includes a private reception with Coach Huggins & all award recipients before the event are $100/person or $900/table of 10.
