Gateway Will Offer HVAC CEU Classes This November

Florence, KY (October 11, 2012)—The Workforce Solutions Division of Gateway Community and Technical College has scheduled four continuing education courses in November for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning technicians who have journeyman and master license(s).

The four-hour courses will take place on Saturday, November 17, at the college’s Boone Campus. The cost for each course is $60, and lunch is included in the registration fee. The registration deadline is Wednesday, November 14.

Participants must bring a photo ID and HVAC license(s) to class.

From 8 a.m. to noon, the two classes offered are: “HVAC Systems” and “Motor Controls.” “Flammable & Combustible Liquids/Hazardous Communication” and “Confined Space Awareness” will be offered from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Kentucky license holders take a combination of CEU courses to equal eight hours. Ohio license holders take courses equal to 10 hours.

ALEXANDRIA, KY (FOX19) - The Alexandria and Community Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary is sponsoring a Scrap-A-Thon on Saturday, October 13.

This event will happen in the Alexandria Fire Hall from 9 a.m. - 6 p.m.

The Scrap-A-Thon is a Scrap booking and Card making event.  There will be Scrap booking and Card making representatives available to assist you for this fun day.  Food, Fun and Raffles will also be available.  Cost is $25.00 a person.

BURLINGTON, KY (FOX19) - Local author Rick Robinson will discuss his new political thriller, Writ of Mandamus, during free receptions held at Boone, Campbell, Grant and Kenton County Public Libraries, the week of October 22. Robinson will share the stories behind his characters, answer questions, sign books and mingle with the crowd while sampling appetizers prepared by Chez Nora.   

Writ of Mandamus follows the story of a fictional congressman, Richard Thompson, who is running for re-election. His opponent, Sean Sullivan, is an eccentric lawyer who frequents Covington’s popular bistro, Chez Nora, and complains if his Guinness is not served at room temperature. In honor of Sean Sullivan, Chez Nora will be preparing Guinness pork sliders for each of the libraries’ receptions.

Gateway Students Sponsor Craft Fair Oct. 6

Edgewood, Ky. (Oct. 1, 2012) – The Student Government Association at Gateway Community and Technical College will sponsor a craft fair and yard sale Saturday, Oct. 6, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the college’s Edgewood Campus, 790 Thomas More Parkway.

The event is a fund-raiser that will benefit the SGA and the United Way. Local craft vendors are invited to set up a table in the campus parking lot for $15 per vendor. Students and employees may offer craft or yard sale items for a reduced space rate of $10 per table.  All sellers must provide their own tables and chairs; however, the space rate includes parking for two cars.

Former Clinton administration official among speakers at Gateway/TA 3 Manufacturing Conference

COVINGTON, KY (September 28, 2012) – Phillip Singerman, assistant secretary of commerce for economic development during the Clinton administration, is one of more than two dozen international, national and local governmental, industry and education leaders headlining an international manufacturing conference here Monday and Tuesday.

Jointly sponsored by Gateway Community and Technical College and the Trans-Atlantic Technology and Training Alliance (TA3), the conference is open for public registration and examines “The Future of Manufacturing: Implications for Education and Training.”

Food lovers to indulge at Taste of the Levee

Food lovers to indulge at Taste of the Levee

NEWPORT, KY (FOX19) - Newport on the Levee will be any food lovers dream between Oktoberfest and the sixth annual Taste of the Levee this weekend.

The Taste takes place on Saturday, September 29 and invites visitors to indulge in palate-friendly food options from a variety of Levee eateries including: BRIO Tuscan Grille, Brothers Bar & Grill, Claddagh Irish Pub, Dewey’s Pizza, GameWorks, Mitchell’s Fish Market, Star Lanes on the Levee, StoneBrook Winery, and Tom + Chee.

Each food sampling is $3 or less and tastings will take place from 12:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

While browsing through the food booths, festival-goers may listen to the sounds of live music from Chuck Brisbin and the Tuna Project (12:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.), Ben Alexander (3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.) and The Cincy Brass (6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.). Street performer entertainment and artists vendor booths will also be on hand.
