EDGEWOOD, KY (FOX19) - Dr. Michael J. Miller will present updates and guidelines Wednesday night for the evaluation and management of concussions including the KHSAA (Kentucky High School Athletic Association) position on concussions.
The issue has become bigger and bigger as research has suggested that a single concussion can put athletes jeopardy, especially if they get another.
The event runs from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m., and dozens have already registered, so those interested should call 859-301-5600 to see if spaces are available.
Dr. Miller serves on the Kentucky Medical Association (KMA) Committee on Physical Education and Medical Aspects of Sports. This committee advises the KHSAA on all medical guidelines for the state of Kentucky at the high school level. In addition, Dr. Miller is also a credentialed ImPACT ™ Consultant and Medical Director of the Sports Medicine program at St. Elizabeth Healthcare.
ImPACT ™ is a computerized test which can help measure the cognitive/mental changes that occur when an athlete suffers a concussion. This test can be used after a concussion to help determine if an athlete is fit to resume play.
The concussion forum is aimed at coaches, parents, athletes and other medical professionals.
