ALEXANDRIA & HEBRON, KY (FOX19) - Snap Fitness will open thjer second and third locations in Northern Kentucky June 1 after its first location in Independence, offering residents what it calls a “fast, convenient and affordable” alternative to traditional big-box fitness centers.

EDGEWOOD, KY (FOX19) - The Northern Kentucky Health Department is recognizing Jeff Walters and Meredith Potter with its 2011 Awards of Excellence in Public Health. Walters is chair of the Fitness for Life Around Grant County (FFLAG) coalition and shipping manager at Performance Pipe in Williamstown. Potter works with Covington Independent Public Schools and the Alliance for a Healthier Generation.

“Community efforts to improve physical activity and nutrition often need a champion to move forward,” said Lynne Saddler, MD, MPH, District Director of Health. “Jeff and Meredith have provided that spark in their respective communities, offering leadership and creativity in efforts to improve the health of employees, school children and community members.”

Walters and Potter will receive the awards at 8 a.m. on Monday, May 16, during the Grant County Chamber of Commerce meeting at the Grant County Extension Office, 105 Baton Rouge Road, Williamstown, Ky.

Fourteen Northern Kentucky schools recognized for excellence in school health

FT. MITCHELL, KY (FOX19) - Many schools in Northern Kentucky are actively shaping the health and wellness of their students and staff. The Northern Kentucky Health Department supports these efforts through its school health programming. As a part of this initiative, the Award of Excellence in School Health was developed to recognize and celebrate schools in Northern Kentucky that have policies, programs, and the infrastructure to support and promote school health.  

This year, 14 Northern Kentucky schools will be recognized with either a gold, silver or bronze level Award of Excellence in School Health. The thirteen public schools received the award Wednesday at the Northern Kentucky Cooperative for Educational Services Superintendents’ Meeting. St.

On Thursday night, pink fireworks will fill the sky, as Greater Cincinnati prepares for the 14th annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure®.

The trademark fundraiser will happen on Saturday, September 24, 2011 at the Great American Ball Park in downtown Cincinnati. Registration and fundraising is now open online at komencincinnati.org.

EDGEWOOD, KY (FOX19) - The new St. Elizabeth CardioVascular Mobile Health Unit will be offering stroke and cardiovascular screenings at locations throughout Northern Kentucky during the month of May.

Sponsored by the Bank of Kentucky, made possible by the support from John C. Holmes, M.D., along with contributions from St. Elizabeth 2008-2010 Vision employee donors, the new mobile health van brings technology and expertise for diagnosing cardiovascular disease, stroke and diabetes to where you live, work and play.

Using state-of-the-art EKG and ultrasound technology, the new mobile unit can perform an array of on-site tests aimed at detecting all manner of risky health conditions including carotid artery disease, peripheral arterial disease, abdominal aortic aneurysm, high blood pressure and abnormal blood glucose levels.
