EDGEWOOD, KY (March 15, 2012) – Gateway Community and Technical College will host a national professional development conference March 23 on behalf of the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).

The conference, AHIMA’s first academic design professional development conference in 2012, is designed to provide college administrators, program directors, faculty, curriculum designers and industry practitioners with information needed to develop new health information education programs at the associate and bachelor’s degree levels.

The day-long conference will focus on administrative concerns, such as program placement, faculty recruitment and advisory committee development, and on teaching techniques, including student evaluation, distance learning, internships, and certification test preparation.

Gateway will introduce an associate degree program in health information technology in the fall of 2012.  “We believe the opportunity to host the conference underscores the credibility and quality of our new program,” said Susan Chaney, associate professor and coordinator of medical and health information technology programs.

The conference will take place from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Gateway’s Edgewood Campus in the Student Services Center at 790 Thomas More Parkway. Participation cost is $300 per person. To register, visit http://www.ahima.org/schools/FacResources/New_Program_Workshop_Registration_032312.pdf or contact Chaney at 859-442-1705, susan.chaney@kctcs.edu.
