SOUTHGATE, KY (FOX19) -A pregnant woman has died after a crash on Interstate 471.
The family of Lori Howe released the following statement via University Hospital:
"We wish to express our gratitude for the outpouring of concern over the tragic deaths of Lori and her unborn child. We ask that the media and the public please respect our privacy in this most difficult time for our family. We would also like to thank the hospital's medical staff, social workers and chaplains who have been such a great comfort to us."
The accident occurred Thursday evening at the 0.8 mile marker on southbound I-471, near the entrance to 275 east. The crash injured seven other people.
According to Southgate Police, a Ford van carrying six people was headed north on 471 when the driver lost control and crossed the grass median, hitting a Mazda car driving southbound.
The Mazda then hit a Plymouth car also heading south.
The van eventually hit a guardrail, throwing four people out of the vehicle who were not wearing seatbelts.
Five people were taken to University Hospital, two to St. Elizabeth Ft. Thomas Hospital and one to St. Elizabeth Edgewood Hospital. The conditions of the other people involved are unknown at this point.
All southbound lanes of 471 were closed for just under four hours.
Crews are still investigating the crash.
