FORT THOMAS, KY (FOX19) - Kentucky Department of Education Commissioner Terry Holliday has appointed Lisa Duckworth to fill the vacancy on the Fort Thomas Board of Education.
Duckworth is well known in the district through her involvement with several schools. Previously, she served on the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) boards at Moyer Elementary and Highlands High; served as PTO President at Moyer Elementary; served as a member (nine years total) of the Site-Based, Decision-Making (SBDM) councils at Moyer Elementary, Highlands Middle and Highlands High; and has also served on the Fort Thomas Local Planning Committee (LPC). Most recently, she has worked coordinating the annual community teacher appreciation breakfast.
Duckworth stated, “I am honored by my appointment to the Fort Thomas Board of Education. I’m excited and look forward to the challenge of continuing the tradition of excellence in education within our community.”
“Mrs. Duckworth’s experience in serving on school-level as well as district-level councils and committees gives her a broad-based and knowledgeable background of our district to bring to her position on the Board,” stated Superintendent John Williamson.
Duckworth, a 1976 graduate of McAuley High School in Cincinnati, Ohio, worked at Western & Southern Financial Group for six years before leaving to raise her children and become active in the Fort Thomas Independent Schools. Her husband, Tom, a 1971 Highlands High School graduate, is a Data Base Administrator for Western & Southern Financial Group. Lisa and Tom have two children. Their daughter, Laura, is a 2007 graduate of Highlands High School, who attends Northern Kentucky University. Their son, Evan, is a 2011 graduate of Highlands High School, who attends Eastern Kentucky University.
In her spare time, she enjoys sewing, scrapbooking and spending time with her family and friends.
Duckworth fills the vacant seat created by the death of former board member Gail Federle. The appointment runs through the next general election on November 6, 2012, when a member will be elected to fulfill the remaining two years of the seat’s four-year term.
