Moyer Elementary School SBDMC names new principal

FORT THOMAS, KY (FOX19) - The Moyer Elementary School Site-Based Decision-Making Council (SBDMC) voted unanimously to hire Matthew Haskamp as principal of Moyer Elementary School. Haskamp is presently the assistant principal at Highlands High School.

Haskamp earned his bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Northern Kentucky University and his master’s degree in educational leadership from the University of Cincinnati.

Haskamp taught physical education at Highlands High School before taking the position as assistant principal, where he has served for the last four years. Previously, Haskamp held positions as physical education teacher and also as guidance counselor at Covington Catholic High School.

Haskamp and his wife, Katie, live in Mariemont, Ohio, with their 3-year-old daughter, Julianne. Outside of work, he enjoys boating, fishing and camping.

Members of the Moyer Site-Based Decision-Making Council were very impressed with Haskamp. Council member and teacher Beckie McGraw stated, “The council is very pleased with the selection of Mr. Haskamp. We feel that Mr. Haskamp will prove to be a strong leader who will continue to promote excellence at Moyer Elementary.”

Superintendent Gene Kirchner stated, “Mr. Haskamp’s commitment to the Fort Thomas School District distinguished him from the other candidates. His knowledge and administrative experience will allow him to effectively transition into the role of principal. I would also thank each of the Moyer SBDM council members whose dedication and commitment to obtaining the best principal for their school was clearly evident throughout the entire selection process.”

Haskamp added, "I can’t express how thankful I am to join the Moyer family. It is truly an honor and a dream come true.”

Haskamp succeeds Principal Jay Brewer who resigned to accept the superintendent position at Dayton Independent Schools. Haskamp will begin serving as principal on July 1, 2012.
