HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, KY (FOX19) - A memorial service for Dr. Heather Bullen has been set for this weekend according to the Northern Kentucky University website.

The service will be held on Sunday, July 15, from 1-4 p.m. in the NKU Griffin Hall George and Ellen Rieveschl Digitorium.

Gateway Nursing Program Administrator Helps Develop National Licensing Exams

EDGEWOO, KY (FOX19) – Teresa Mauk of Union, administrator of the nursing program at Gateway Community and Technical College, is one of only 12 nurses nationwide selected as subject matter experts to develop national nursing licensing exams.

     Mauk was approved for the post by the Kentucky Board of Nursing and selected as an item writer by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing. NCSBN develops and administers the Nursing Licensure Examination, including both the NCLEX-RN® and NCLEX-PN® licensing exams.

     Mauk participated in the process in Chicago in late June. She was nominated based on clinical specialty and nursing expertise, according to Ross Santell, Gateway associate provost for nursing and allied health.

     “It is quite an honor to be selected for the process,” Santell said. “Teresa’s selection speaks very highly of the quality of our nursing faculty.”

Campbell County resident wins national award from National Children's Alliance

(FOX19) - Vickie Henderson, executive director of the Northern Kentucky Children’s Advocacy Center, has earned the 2012 Horowitz-Barker Professional Leadership Award from the National Children’s Alliance. “We are pleased to present Vickie Henderson with one of our highest forms of recognition for her important work on behalf of the Northern Kentucky Children’s Advocacy Center,” said Teresa Huizar, Executive Director of the National Children’s Alliance, in presenting the award. “Her exemplary efforts have contributed to the sustainability of the children’s advocacy center movement – and we are grateful for her extraordinary commitment.” Henderson received the award at the organization’s annual meeting in June.

               Detective Jodie Rigney, in her letter of support for Henderson, said, “Vickie taught me through her daily words and actions that it really is all about the kids.

Gateway Developmental Education Chair Earns Peer Excellence Award

EDGEWOOD, KY. (FOX19) – Carissa Schutzman of  Villa Hills, chair of the Developmental Education and Orientation to College Division at Gateway Community and Technical College, has been selected by her peers for the college’s annual Outstanding Faculty Excellence Award.

The award is presented as part of the annual New Horizons recognition program sponsored by the Kentucky Community and Technical College System. Gateway is a KCTCS member college. Schutzman was one of 50 KCTCS employees statewide to be honored for outstanding faculty or staff performance.

“Being nominated by one’s peers for New Horizons recognition is the highest honor an employee can receive within the system,” said Gateway President/CEO Ed Hughes. “Carissa has been an involved, collaborative and innovative teacher.

Moyer Elementary School SBDMC names new principal

FORT THOMAS, KY (FOX19) - The Moyer Elementary School Site-Based Decision-Making Council (SBDMC) voted unanimously to hire Matthew Haskamp as principal of Moyer Elementary School. Haskamp is presently the assistant principal at Highlands High School.

Haskamp earned his bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Northern Kentucky University and his master’s degree in educational leadership from the University of Cincinnati.

Haskamp taught physical education at Highlands High School before taking the position as assistant principal, where he has served for the last four years. Previously, Haskamp held positions as physical education teacher and also as guidance counselor at Covington Catholic High School.

Haskamp and his wife, Katie, live in Mariemont, Ohio, with their 3-year-old daughter, Julianne. Outside of work, he enjoys boating, fishing and camping.

Members of the Moyer Site-Based Decision-Making Council were very impressed with Haskamp.

Covington, Ky. (May 30, 2012) – Mallis Graves, director of the Gateway Community and Technical College Urban Center in Covington, has been selected by her peers at Gateway for recognition as the college’s outstanding administrative staff member for 2012.

Graves was among 50 of her colleagues in the Kentucky Community and Technical College System to be honored for leadership and significant achievements.  

“Being nominated by one’s peers for New Horizons recognition is the highest honor an employee can receive within the system,” said Gateway President/CEO Ed Hughes. “Mallis exemplifies the quality and excellence in leadership found in administrative staff levels at Gateway and across KCTCS. Mallis is among a core of outstanding leaders who will provide leadership for the college in the future.”

Gateway Web Manager Receives Statewide Excellence Award

Covington, KY  (May 23, 2012) – Tess Burns of Covington received  the New Horizons Award of Excellence as the outstanding support staff member among all staff members in the 16-college Kentucky Community and Technical College System.  Burns is web services and social media manager at Gateway Community and Technical College in Northern Kentucky.  

“Simply being nominated by your peers for New Horizons recognition is the highest honor an employee can receive within the system,” said Gateway President/CEO Ed Hughes. “To be selected for the statewide award truly signifies that you are the best of the best.”

Burns was nominated by her peers not only for her work in web services and social media but also for her creativity and innovation in developing and delivering professional development opportunities, such as “5 Things We Can Learn from Lady Gaga,” related to online communications.
