Gateway Will Offer Plumbing CEU Classes This Fall

FLORENCE, KY (FOX19) —The Workforce Solutions Division of Gateway Community and Technical Colleges has scheduled four continuing education courses for journeyman and master plumbers in November.

The four-hour courses will take place on Saturday, November 19, at the college’s Boone Campus. The cost for each course is $60, and lunch is included in the registration fee. The registration deadline is Wednesday, November 16.

Participants must bring a photo ID and a plumbing license to class.

Two courses will be offered from 8 a.m. to noon. They are: “2010-2011 Continuing Education” and “Water Treatment & Filtration.” Two other courses will be available from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m.

SOUTHGATE, KY (FOX19) - St. Therese School in Southgate celebrated Grandparent's Day on September 23. Grandparents were invited to attend Mass with their grandchildren.  After Mass,  grandparents were treated to coffee, doughnuts, and tours of the classrooms.

HVAC Continuing Education Courses Scheduled at Gateway

FLORENCE, KY(FOX19) —The Workforce Solutions Division of Gateway Community and Technical Colleges has scheduled four continuing education courses for heating and air conditioning technicians in November.

The four-hour courses will take place on Saturday, Nov. 19, at the college’s Boone Campus. The cost for each course is $60, and lunch is included in the registration fee. The registration deadline is Wednesday, Nov. 16.

The classes can be applied to Kentucky and Ohio licensing requirements for continuing education. Kentucky license holders take a combination of courses to equal eight hours; Ohio license holders must take 10 hours. Participants must bring a photo ID and an HVAC license to class.

Two courses will be offered from 8 a.m. to noon. They are: “Building Science/House as System” and “Controls.” Two other courses will be available from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m.

NewCath boys golf gets their first ever sendoff to State

NEWPORT, KY (FOX19) - On Monday, October 3, 2011 in the Newport Central Catholic gym, NewCath's boys golf team will get a sendoff as they head to the Kentucky state golf tournament for the first time. 

The golf team qualified for the state golf tournament which will be held at Bowling Green Country Club on Tuesday.  The team was led by Drew McDonald with a 79, Colin DuPont 81, Andy Miller 86,  Nick Seibert 86, & Matt Striegel 90.

Top Latino civil rights attorney here next week

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, KY (FOX19) - The Northern Kentucky University Chase College of Law will present a series of public events featuring nationally recognized civil rights attorney Thomas Saenz Oct. 5-7.

Saenz leads the Los Angeles-based Mexican-American Legal Defense and Education Fund (MALDEF) as president and general counsel. Founded in 1968, MALDEF is the nation’s leading Latino legal civil rights organization. Often described as the “law firm of the Latino community,” it promotes social change through advocacy, communications, community education and litigation in the areas of education, employment, immigration rights and political access.

Chase will host a welcome reception/breakfast on Wednesday, Oct. 5, at 9:30 a.m. in the NKU Student Union 109. At noon that day, Saenz will deliver a keynote presentation to law students titled “Using Your Law Degree to Make a Difference” in Nunn Hall 426. At 4 p.m. on Oct.

NKU to Host STEM Day for Local High School Students

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, KY (FOX19) - Northern Kentucky University will host a day of activities geared toward area high school students interested in pursuing a career in science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM) fields on Monday, October 3, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

            Participants will have the chance to take part in various science- and technology-related activities, pose questions to current NKU students currently enrolled in STEM disciplines and learn more about college and career programs in STEM fields. The day will be highlighted by a keynote lecture by Tim Platt, Vice President for Information Systems at Toyota Motor Engineering and Manufacturing North America, Inc., at noon.

“We currently do not have enough professionals in these fields to fill the demand for jobs in this area,” said Dr. Bethany Bowling, assistant NKU biological sciences professor.

NKU Extends Application Deadline for Fall ExploreMore! Program for Gifted Studies

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, KY (FOX19) - The Northern Kentucky University Institute for Talent Development and Gifted Studies has extended the deadline for its fall 2011 ExploreMore! Program to September 28.

The program will meet Saturdays, October 1-29 and is for students in grades K-8. The program will be held from 9-11:30 a.m. each day.

The ExploreMore! Enrichment Program offers a broad range of courses such as chemical reactions, gobs of goo, amazing art, critical thinking adventures and space exploration. All courses will be held on NKU's Highland Heights campus.
