FORT THOMAS, KY (FOX19)  - Three Highlands High School athletes will sign letters of intent on Tuesday, May 14. The signings will be held at Highlands High School and are open to the public.

Campbell County fifth grader to compete in National Special Olympics

ALEXANDRIA, KY (FOX19) - A fifth grader at Campbell County Elementary School has qualified to compete in the National Special Olympics Games Competition in Marietta, GA.

Ariana Perkins is one of over 120 athletes from all over the United States and Canada and in the competition on May 4 & 5 that will feature both artistic and rhythmic gymnastics.

Among the events Arian will be competing in for artistic gymnastics are the floor routine, vault, bars, and beam. She will also be competing in rhythmic gymnastics, a sport that combines elements of ballet, gymnastics, dance, and apparatus manipulation.

Events in this discipline will include routines using a rope, hoop, ball, and ribbon. Ariana previously competed in the Special Olympics State Artistic Games, bringing home gold medals in floor routine, bars, and all around, along with silver medals in vault and beam.

Highlands High school football team offering to help with spring cleaning

FORT THOMS, KY (FOX19) - The Highlands High School Football Team will hold their Annual Spring Clean on Sunday, April 28, 2013, from 1-5pm.

Now in its ninth year, the Annual Spring Clean is an opportunity for football team members to help area residents with household chores, including yard work while raisong money for a charitable cause.

The team asks that there be no power tools involved or work inside the home.

Job requests to within a five mile radius as many players do not drive.

Campbell County Middle School student earns KY sport stacking record

ALEXANDRIA, KY (FOX19) - Campbell County Middle School student Nick Stamm is a master stacker and has set a Kentucky state record.

At the 2013 WSSA Hoosier State Sport Stacking Championships in Connersville, Indiana Nick took 1st place in his age division in the 3-3-3 stack and 2nd place in the 3-6-3 and Cycle stacks. Nick's accomplishments in Connersville earned him the Kentucky State record in the sport of Sport Stacking.

CCMS will host the 5th Annual Sport Stacking competition on Saturday March 23rd 9:00 am. CCS students in grades K-8 are eligible to enter.

NEWPORT, KY (FOX19) - Art on the Levee Gallery is kicking off baseball season by hosting a new exhibition entitled, "Rooted Deep In the Soil of Cincinnati...A Passion for Baseball, Art and Inspiration,” by artist Chris Felex.

Chris' work has been featured on FOX19.

Chris Felix, a native of Cincinnati is known for his detailed paintings of Cincinnati Reds players. The exhibition is free and open to the public and will run March 23 - May 23.

The public is also invited to the opening on March 23rd from 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. at Art on the Levee where they can meet Chris Felix and hear him speak about his paintings.

 

 

NKU Athletics to launch $6 million campaign

NKU Athletics to launch $6 million campaign

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, KY (FOX19) -Northern Kentucky University Athletics announced a plan on Saturday that will help the university transition into the NCAA Division I and Atlantic Sun Conference.

"Go Gold: NKU's Division I Campaign" seeks to raise $6 million to help support this transition.

The campaign has four priorities: Supplementing athletic scholarships, enhancing and renovating facilities, academic support and the Go Gold Excellence Fund.

NKU believes that in order to recruit top talent, the university needs to be able to award attractive scholarship packages to student athletes. The university has committed to increasing its scholarship funding and upping its total scholarship level this academic year.
