NewCath boys golf gets their first ever sendoff to State

NEWPORT, KY (FOX19) - On Monday, October 3, 2011 in the Newport Central Catholic gym, NewCath's boys golf team will get a sendoff as they head to the Kentucky state golf tournament for the first time. 

The golf team qualified for the state golf tournament which will be held at Bowling Green Country Club on Tuesday.  The team was led by Drew McDonald with a 79, Colin DuPont 81, Andy Miller 86,  Nick Seibert 86, & Matt Striegel 90.

NEWPORT, KY (FOX19) - A Northern Kentucky staple, Pompilios restaurant wants to welcome the public to the 2011 Jerry Ramundo Memorial Bocce Tournament, located at 6th and Washington Streets in Newport. The games start Monday, October 3 through Thursday, October 6 with four teams playing at 7 p.m. and four teams playing at 9 p.m., rain or shine.

Sixteen bocce teams will battle it out for the final two positions in Thursday’s Tournament of Champions where the semi-final game is at 7 p.m. and the final game is at 9 p.m. At 8 p.m. Thursday night, a buffet will be available for all participating players. Drink specials are being offered, as well as all regular menu items.

Pompilios Bocce Leagues began in 1991. Each year, 128 players (64 two-person teams) sign up to compete in the bocce league.

CINCINNATI (FOX19) - If all goes as planned, the new Johnny Rockets restaurant location at The Banks in Downtown will open on October 27th. 

A manager at the Kenwood location said they plan to have a soft opening for people in neighboring buildings and businesses while they get up to speed. 

Exclusive to the location will be Dusty’s Bacon Burger and the Lotta Domata Hamburger, named for the Reds' Dusty Baker and the Bengals' Domata Peko.  Also on the menu are Banks Shanks and Spiral Pass Potatoes. 

Reflecting the location directly across Joe Nuxhall way from Great American Ball Park, this will be the first Johnny Rockets with a bar, and one of the largest if not the largest in the country.  It will be open from 7:00 a.m.

WILDER, KY (FOX19) - You are invited to join in on Town & Country’s Pump Off Group Training Competition. 

The “Pump Off” is open to the public and will begin October 10, 2011 and run through December 2, 2011.  This 8-week program focuses on building individual strength and cardiovascular endurance.  Each week participants will meet with their personal trainer and group for their training session and then the final week will conclude with a strength competition.

WILDER, KY (FOX19) - The new location of the Bambooz bar and grill in Wilder is devoting itself to the NFL in a big way, telling people to come down to watch the Cincinnati Bengals take on the Denver Broncos at Denver at 4PM Sunday.

The bar is celebrating their new location and the opening of the Bengals football season by be giving away an authentic Cincinnati Bengals Riddell NFL deluxe full size helmet to one person. Every person who comes to watch the game or the next game is automatically entered to win, no purchase necessary. A drawing will be held on Sunday, September 25th.

They also have drink offers during Sunday's game: $8 buckets of Bud Light and Miller Lite, $3 Well drinks, $3 Bengal Shot, $.50 wings and $9 large one item pizzas.

Kroger Stop Diabetes Night at the Ball Park

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Kroger, the Cincinnati Reds and the American Diabetes Association have partnered to support the Stop Diabetes® movement by joining forces for the very first Kroger Stop Diabetes® Night at the Ball Park, happening on Tuesday, September 20 at Great American Ball Park as the Cincinnati Reds take on the Houston Astros at 7:10pm.

Cincinnati area Kroger locations are currently selling discount Mezzanine Level ticket vouchers for $15.  Tickets can be purchased at all Kroger store checkout counters.  Additionally, tickets can be purchased by visiting www.reds.com/stopdiabetes or by calling the American Diabetes Association at 513.759.9330.  A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the tickets will go to the American Diabetes Association.

Public invited to Dragon Boat racing Saturday

ALEXANDRIA, KY (FOX19) - On Saturday, September 10, the ancient sport of Chinese dragon boat racing will return to Northern Kentucky with the Second Annual Kentucky Dragon Boat Festival. From early in the morning until late in the afternoon, A.J. Jolly Park in Campbell County will be filled with 59 teams of racers from all over the tri-state area racing 57-foot Hong-Kong style dragon boats to raise funds for breast cancer awareness and treatment.

Spectators are welcome to cheer their favorite teams on to victory. Donations can be made to a specific team or the event in general at www.stelizabeth.com/dragonboat. All proceeds from the event benefit the presenting team, the Kentucky Thorough-Breasts, Kentucky’s first breast cancer survivor team, and the Breast Centers of St. Elizabeth Healthcare.

Team sign-in begins at 7 a.m., the Opening Ceremony at 8 a.m., and races start 8:15 a.m.
