Bike and Ride Free on Metro, TANK and CTC on Thursday, May 17

CINCINNATI –  To celebrate Bike to Work Day, bicycle commuters can ride free on Metro, the Transit Authority of Northern Kentucky (TANK) or Clermont Transportation Connection (CTC) on Thursday, May 17, when they transport their bikes on the easy-to-use bus bike racks.

Bike racks are located on the front of all Metro, TANK and CTC buses and can be used at all bus stops including Government Square downtown. Each bike rack can accommodate two bikes. For safety reasons, bikes are not allowed on-board buses unless they can be folded and stowed under a seat.

Metro and TANK will also be at the Bike to Work Day Celebration on Fountain Square on May 17, from noon to 1 p.m., to demonstrate the ease of biking and riding buses. Visit http://www.queencitybike.com/ for information on Cincinnati Bike Month activities.

COVINGTON, KY (FOX19) - Traffic in Northern Kentucky was a big problem Monday afternoon as highways turned slippery due to snowfall and temperatures.  Here's what the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is saying about the problems and about Tuesday morning's commute:

State of Kentucky says shortest day of year is good day for headlights

FRANKFORT, KY (FOX19)-  The first day of winter is the “shortest” day of the year, meaning daylight is at its minimum. It’s also the season in which motorists find themselves driving more in the dark – and encountering others who are driving without headlights.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet and Kentucky State Police (KSP) remind motorists to make themselves visible. Crashes often occur because drivers don’t see other vehicles.

“Drivers have been contacting us and expressing their concerns about people not using headlights,” said Bill Bell, director of the Transportation Cabinet’s Office of Highway Safety. “Even though you may still be able to see the pavement ahead, others on the road may not be able to recognize your darkened vehicle. Partnering with Kentucky State Police in reminding drivers to enhance their vehicle’s visibility by using headlights is a common sense solution in reducing crashes this holiday season.”
